Road Planings

Used for tracks, non-adopted roads and car parks

40mm Limestone Scalpings

Our high-quality road planings or scalpings are a sustainable, cost-effective recycled aggregate. They are the perfect solution for creating a durable, stable sub-base layer or hardstanding surface.

Our road planings are a secondary, recycled aggregate produced when the surface layer of a tarmac road or motorway is removed during resurfacing works. Utilising our advanced processing facilities at Butser Quarry, we turn this material into a highly sought-after construction product that diverts thousands of tonnes of waste away from landfill.

Coarser and more durable than traditional soil or loose gravel, road planings are bound with residual bitumen. This means that when they are laid and compacted, they lock together tightly, creating an incredibly hardwearing and water-resistant surface that withstands heavy vehicular use. It serves as a highly economical alternative to primary sub-base materials (like crushed rock), which are more expensive and harder to source locally.
