Where does the soil and hardcore we collect go?

At TJ, we offer a range of muck away and waste disposal services, many of which cater for large-scale construction, house building, groundworks and civil engineering contractors who are likely to have vast volumes of soil and hardcore to dispose of.

The great thing about us – in addition to our competitive prices and reliable service – is that we will always reuse these types of materials rather than sending them to landfill.

We are dedicated to diverting as much waste as possible from landfill and endeavour to reuse or recycle up to 100% of the waste we handle.

Sending waste to landfill sites is not only expensive, but it is also extremely detrimental to the environment and cannot be sustained long-term.

If you have soil or hardcore to dispose of, let us take care of it for you. You can utilise our grab hire and muck away services to remove it from your site, then leave the rest to us; we’ll ensure it gets directed down the most appropriate and environmentally-friendly route for its type. Grab hire and muck away

Our grab hire and muck away services will provide the ideal solution for removal of large quantities of soil and hardcore. One of our 8 wheel grabs will arrive onsite to remove the materials, and depending on the quantity, will take it away, or transfer it onto one of our larger tipper trucks for removal.

Using a grab lorry means that accessibility is rarely an issue as they’re compact and able to access restricted areas with ease. What’s more, we can use more than one tipper truck at a time if the volume of materials is vast, or do multiple trips if needed. We conduct this service professionally and efficiently, ensuring the task is completed in good time and that your site is left clean and tidy.

Please note that we also specialise in removing hazardous materials such as contaminated soils, which we will take to one of our partners for treatment before onward disposal – please get in touch to find out more.

Benefits of grab hire:

  • With TJ, grab hire is quick and easy to arrange, so you could have your waste removed as quickly as the next working day!
  • Our grab vehicles can be used at sites with low walls and fencing – removing the need to move the waste manually.
  • It’s a cost effective way to dispose of soil and rubble, the removal of which would be much more costly if other removal methods were chosen. Prices start from just £150!
  • You won’t have to estimate your waste levels prior to booking as grabs can remove large quantities in one go and can do additional runs if needed.
  • The process is quick! Grab lorries can be on and off a site within half an hour, taking all your unwanted waste with them!

Where do we collect from?

  • Construction sites – from house renovations to large-scale commercial ventures.
  • House building – where foundations are being dug out, resulting in a lot of excess soil.
  • Grounds works sites – where civil engineering contractors are preparing the land for a large-scale build, generating large quantities of soil.
  • Landscaping projects – where land is being dug out in preparation for a new project. This could be on a domestic or residential basis as well as on local authority land.
  • Demolition – if buildings are being demolished in preparation for new projects, unwanted rubble will be generated.
  • Utilities – where ground is being dug to lay utility pipes, excess soil is likely to accumulate.

Where will your soil go?

All the soil we remove will be repurposed in some way to ensure it is being put to good use and that none of it ends up in landfill. Where the soil that we remove goes depends on what type of soil it is and whether it is hazardous or non-hazardous.

We utilise unwanted clean soil in many of our projects, such as land reinstatement, golf course construction and landscaping/groundworks projects. Any contaminated soil will be taken to a treatment facility to ensure it is safe and neutral before being transported to its final destination.

We’ve worked with UK Remediation, a group of contaminated land specialists, for many years; we utilise their services to treat any contaminated soil that our clients ask us to remove and dispose of. They provide safe and trusted soil remediation services, either on-site or off-site at their soil treatment facilities. Their work adheres to the strictest health and safety standards and they’re always ready to solve any contaminated land problem that arises.

Where will your hardcore and rubble go?

All hardcore/rubble (concrete, bricks, paving slabs and stone) and asphalt that we handle goes to our Butser Quarry near Petersfield, where it is utilised in our in-house recycled aggregate production. We use these materials to make iBlend, a non-frost susceptible Type 1 aggregate, which is ideal for use in ground engineering projects such as sub base layers for roads, hard standings and access areas.

iBlend is a much more cost effective alternative to primary sub base materials, which are not only more expensive, but also harder to get hold of in Hampshire. Our recycled aggregate production process provides a readily available aggregate for bulk fill, whilst also making good use of unwanted hardcore and rubble, preventing it from going to landfill where it might otherwise end up.

All of our recycled aggregate is produced to WRAP protocol which is a government policy that ensures that standards are met to support the safety of the environment. We also have  regular in house testing to ensure that our product remains of a high quality.
