Daniel Shortt, Southeast Depot & Haulage Contract Manager

Intro:

Since leaving school, I have been in Transport Operations for 17 years now, I started working as a taxi controller, then started operating Vans & 7.5ton lorries in the parcel industry before joining TJ running the grabs, tippers & artics. I started with TJ as a Transport Operator in 2012 which was a job I absolutely loved. I took my first step up to Transport Supervisor in 2015 and spent 4 years in the role starting to develop my own brand of management & leadership styles. Finally, I moved into management in early 2020 and have been in this role since, most recently it has given me the opportunity to open my own branch within TJ and grow our business in a new area.

During my time at TJ I have been lucky enough to undertake several courses and earn various qualifications along the way. I earned my Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence in 2015, this is a nationally recognised qualification and gave me a fantastic understanding of legislation and the inner most working of running trucks.

I then obtained my ILM Level 3 Certificate of Leadership & Management Course; this took over a year learning all aspects of running a business and managing a team and was incredibly rewarding once I had completed it.

Dan’s Bio:

job title:

My role is Southeast Depot & Haulage Contract Manager.

I believe my strengths lie in being able to build incredibly strong relationships with our clients, this makes for brilliant working relationships that work well for us both. This had led to me being trusted to look after the day-to-day management of the two largest haulage accounts TJ has with Cemex & Tarmac.

Favourite part of job role:

My favourite part of my role is the people I work with whether it be the fantastic working relationships I have with our client base or my drivers & the transport operators. I feel privileged to work alongside such knowledgeable, professional & nice people.

LENGTH OF SERVICE:

I am in my tenth year at TJ’s and I have achieved so much in this time, I was also very lucky to see TJ grow from a smaller family run business to the march larger organisation we all see today.

OUTSIDE OF WORK:

The most important thing to me in my life is my family, my wife and two kids are my biggest motivator and give me all the enthusiasm that has and will hopefully continue to make me a success at TJ’s.

In addition, for my sins I am a Manchester United football fan so following them either live or on the television usually soaks up any time left after family time.
