Work to commence at Test Valley Golf Club

Work can now commence on the planned project at Test Valley Golf Club, following permission being granted at Hampshire County Council’s March planning meeting. TJ was awarded the contract to improve and upgrade facilities on the golf course in Summer 2021 so it’s great news that the project can now get underway.

It is hoped that the work will commence in June as the project team puts the final arrangements in place and equipment and materials are moved on site. The project will involve improvements to the driving range as well as the redesign of 10 of the 18 holes to enhance user experience, increase aesthetic appeal and create new golfing challenges.

TJ will work closely with the club and golf course architect Marc Westenborg to remodel the ground in line with plans. Extensive groundworks will be involved throughout the project to carry out the necessary screening and shaping work.

The project is expected to span a three-year period and will be sectioned into phases in line with the designs. Work is due to continue all year round, weather permitting.

To maintain a full 18 holes at all times and to ensure that ongoing play is not affected, a plan has been devised so that work will be carried out behind the tee with fencing erected so that the work can be active whilst play continues as normal. Some holes will only have work done to bunding and the areas surrounding the holes, meaning this too can be separately contained.

TJ has built up a great deal of expertise in golf club improvement projects such as this in recent years, with successful projects being carried out at Stoneham Golf Club, Littlehampton Golf Club and Skylark Golf & Country Club  The same operational team will work on this project, bringing with them their extensive knowledge and experience to ensure a complete and thorough job is delivered.

The materials being used for this project will come from carefully selected regional construction sites where the clean inert material could otherwise be going to landfill. It will instead be tested, approved and reused on this project under CL:AIRE protocol. This will be used to carry out the infill,  screening and shaping work required.

Test Valley Golf Club is located in the idyllic north Hampshire countryside, south west of Basingstoke. The Par 72 course was designed in 1991 by Don Wright and European Tour Veteran, Eamon Darcy and measures 6682 yards from the championship tees.

The friendly club welcomes members and visitors alike. It offers an 18-hole course with excellent playable greens, all year round. The course is one of the driest in the area and the downland fairways, bunkers and water features offer a fun but fair challenge for golfers of all abilities.

Test Valley is a mature downland course boasting great playing surfaces and excellent drainage due to the chalk downland terrain. It has some prominent riveted bunkers, some water features and a fantastic mix of long and short holes, with the two loops of nine returning neatly to the clubhouse.
