TJ assists in Bognor Amazon Distribution Centre groundworks project

TJ Transport is currently assisting in a project to prepare the ground for the construction of a new Amazon distribution warehouse on the outskirts of Bognor Regis.

TJ has been employed by Wordsworth Excavations, who are themselves working for ISG Ltd, to assist in the initial groundworks stage of the project, which is now underway.

Established in 2003, Wordsworth Excavations is a trusted multi-disciplinary ground engineering contractor. Based in South Yorkshire but operating nationally, they have the capability of undertaking bulk earthworks, ground stabilisation and demolition services throughout the country. They pride themselves on their professionalism and commitment to our clients, delivering projects on-time and within budget.

We commenced the work in March and this phase of the project was estimated to take approximately 16 weeks, though there have been a few delays due to the weather. This project will involve us removing in excess of 80,000 tonnes of soil from the site and importing over 50,000 tonnes of stone.

The soil that we remove will be taken to our Butser Quarry near Petersfield and repurposed by ourselves in order to divert it from landfill. The stone that we import – 6F5 Primary Limestone, 10/20mm drainage shingle & Type 1 Limestone – will come from our network of partner quarries in the Mendips, which is the nearest source of primary aggregates.

TJ’s Sales & Contracts Manager, Dan Shortt said: “It’s great to have the opportunity to work with a new client, Wordsworth Excavations. The site team are super friendly and easy to work with. I’ve been in regular contact with the team to ensure a smooth operation for both imports and exports and to keep them fully in the loop as the project progresses. We enjoy being involved in these large projects, which will bring countless jobs to the local residents of West Sussex.”

Arun District Council approved plans for the warehouse, which will be located on Newlands Road, at a Planning Committee meeting last  May. Plans show overnight parking for 512 vans at the site in addition to 193 parking spaces.

The warehouse will be 11,000 sqm in size and will act as a ‘last mile’ distribution centre. The centre will create many jobs in the local area. Explore the services TJ Transport provides and find out more about other projects we’ve been involved in…
